Most chemicals used in daily households are mostly the compounds of various elements. These chemical are used as medicines, for cleaning purpose, for food additives, preservatives and batteries and even for decorative and construction works. Many of these chemicals are scientific inventions which have made human lives quite easier. Some of the chemicals, mainly pharmaceuticals, are trademarked and patented. The chemical industries are spread across the country and their location depends upon many economic and production factors. But some chemicals are used more often than the others and are used in almost every household. The top 5 chemicals that are used on everyday basis are mentioned below:
1. Melamine
Melamine is an organic base and a trimer of cynamide, with a 1, 3, 5-triazine skeleton. Melamine is combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin. This resin is a very durable thermosetting plastic and is commonly used in kitchenware, laminate flooring and dry erase boards. Melamine suppliers are based in several parts of our country and deals with all kinds of variety. Besides this, Melamine foam is used as insulation, soundproofing material and in polymeric cleaning products. Due to its high nitrogen content, it is also used in fertilizer industry.
2. Kaolin Clay
Kaolin clay or China clay is a clay material with the chemical formula Al2Si2O5(OH)4. It is soft white clay that is an essential ingredient in the manufacture of China and porcelain. When mixed with water( 20-30%), it becomes plastic(i.e., it can be moulded under pressure), and the shape is retained after the pressure is removed. It is used in toothpaste, ceramics, light bulbs, cosmetics and paints. There are many kaolin clay suppliers in India which deals with several industries.
3. Marble
Marble is chemically known as Calcium Carbonate or CaCO3. It is a metamorphic rock which is composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals. Marble comes in several colours and but the white marble is most common in India. It also comes in grey, blue, pink and other colours. Its most common application is flooring of houses and is used in making bathroom or kitchen tiles. In India, Rajasthan dominates in the production of Marble and many Marble industries are based in this state. Historically, it has been used for making several monuments and sculptures.
4. Sulphuric Acid
This “king of chemicals” has a very common application and is used in many day-to-day activities. Its chemical formula is H2SO4. Sulphuric acid is used in making fertilizers, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, synthetic detergents, dyes, explosives and drugs. The acid is mainly produced through contact process. This acid has a strong corrosive nature and could be harmful to skin in its concentrated form. No wonder it is also called “oil of vitriol”.
5. Washing Soda
Washing Soda is a commonly used chemical mainly used for cleaning purposes. Chemically, it is sodium carbonate decahydrate or NaCO3⋅10H2O. It is a white coloured powder used in detergent industry. As a cleaning material, its actual application lies in the domestic usage for softening of water. This reduces the surface tension of the liquid by forming lather.
